Tree House

Here are some photos of the old tree house that was rotting away when we moved in and the construction of our new tree house!

You can see the damage that the old structure did to the tree and how the tree fought back and "ate" large parts of the old tree house.

In reading about tree house construction, I found these special bolt systems called "Artificial Limbs" (also called a Garnier Limb or GL ) that are inserted into the tree allowing the tree to grow around the bolt as well as letting the structure move with the growth. We devised our own version with more common hardware. This keeps the new tree house "floating" away from the tree itself.

The new tree house is made of pressure treated 2x6s and 2x4s for the floor frame, TimberTech composite decking for the floor, and redwood 2x4s, 4x4s, and fence boards for the house and railing. I made the rope netting from 1/4" manilla rope.
